Christmas Wishes

Hi every one hope you all are ready for Old St. Nick! Just jotting a short note to every one wishing them a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Have not been blogging lately to busy but I think that it is important for every one to slow down and take time to smell the roses-- oh wait there is none now that winter is upon us. Even if it is to mild and there is no snow yet. Just we will have to slow down and smell the coffee, hot chocolate or what ever your drink is. Till later take care and enjoy the holidays.

To mulch or not mulch?

One of the things that people always wants to know is should you rake up your leaves or just let them stay on the ground. You can let them stay or rake. If you rake them up and put them in plastic bags and let them sit over the winter then in the spring you will have the start of a good compost. The leaves will decay over the winter when the sun is warm and by spring they will be able to be spread out in your garden. Some people just put the loose leaves on their flower beds and use them for winter protection. Only sometimes the wind will help you out and move them to different places, maybe not really where you want them to be. So really it is up to the person whether they want to mulch using leaves or not. Some people mulch in the fall using bark or covering with black plastic. This just protects the roots of your plants, keeping the soil from freezing hard and then getting warm and heaving the roots up. So happy mulching!

Taking care of your fall garden.

Hi everyone out there in the gardening world. Fall is upon us and now this the time to ready your garden for the oncoming winter. This is the time of year that we pull out all of your annuals, prune back the ones that need to be,and put on the extra mulch. We tuck all of our garden treasures inside the garden shed. Then we have the garden ready for old man winter to set in. Some people leave the stalks and flowers on their plants so the birds can perch on them or maybe nibble on the dead flower heads.
